Anonymous asked: Hi, I want to study animation is it good and what do you look at when you study it?!
Of COURSE it’s good!
As far as what I look at, as in inspiration I look at art that I like from the past or present, well done animated movies like Disney, Dreamworks, Studio Ghibli, etc. or tv shows like Avatar: the Last Airbender, Adventure Time, Teen Titans, etc. You have to look at stuff that excites you about drawing/animating, and don’t lose that excitement!
What to look for in quality of animation is the 12 principles of animation (look at the book the Illusion of Life) These are the secret to good animation: Squash & Stretch, Anticipation, Staging, Straight-ahead vs. Pose-to-pose, Follow through & overlapping action, Slow in & slow out, Arcs, Secondary action, Timing, Exaggeration, Solid drawing, and Appeal.
